Onnemi International Ministries News

Christ Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed!!

We hope that you had a wonderful Easter Day celebration and that these next seven weeks of Eastertide are life giving and soul enriching!

Onnemi International Ministries has been working on the border of Ciudad Juarez and El Paso for a number of years.  This ministry has grown immensely since its inception and we are grateful to all of you that support us in so many different ways.  You have backed us financially, you have helped us physically and you have established a strong foundation of prayer.

Thank you for joining us in this endeavor to serve the Lord in such a unique place!  Through the past years, we have shared some of the happenings and the many people whose lives have been touched as a result of the work here.  We trust that this new email format will help show you the hope and struggle of  our team, our families, the families around Onnemi, the development of the community center, and the story of the surrounding community and Juarez as a whole.

Janeth Rubi Chavaria graduates from college!

Janeth and her family have been with Onnemi since the beginning.  She has worked hard and remained very focused and has graduated with a license to practice Physical Therapy.  This last year was her internship and now she is hoping to land a job at the same clinic where she is already familiar.

Physical therapy is a competitive career here in Juarez, the best jobs tend to be within government structures while the private clinics pay significantly less.  She has been approached for in-home therapy by several people, but lacks the equipment necessary for adequate care.  We are looking for equipment that is both affordable and efficient.

Janeth is the first person in her family to graduate from college.  Actually, Janeth is the first person in her family to graduate from High School and Middle School! Her parents have since finished middle school as a result of the Onnemi school program; but Janeth was the first to get through it all!

Her education has certainly been a family effort.  Her father, Jesus (Chuy), worked at a local recycling yard for a few years so they could pay for a better Middle school.  He worked nights (7p-7a) seven days a week while being paid for six. The seventh was "volunteer" because his employer had a dozen guys looking for work and he would be replaced if he didn't.  The day after her graduation, he quit his job.  Needless to say, the family went through a lot to help her through!

Janeth is also sponsored though Onnemi International Ministries.  Our team is very proud of her and excited to be part of the next steps in her life.  We have a number of sponsorship opportunities if you are interested in being involved in this way.  Our sponsorship program focuses on the student needs and the family needs as a whole.  Through committed sponsors we are able to provide help with uniforms, books, registration fees, and school supplies.

Onnemi International Ministries is dedicated to church planting on the US-Mexico border. Our mission is to make disciples by preaching, teaching, and obeying the gospel of Jesus Christ on the US-Mexico border.

Onnemi, a Nahuatl word meaning "he lives", exists to show how Christ can live in and through each of us in every area of our lives.

We proclaim "Onnemi" so..."that by believing you may have life in His name!" (John 20:31c ESV).
